James became President & CEO of America’s second-largest federal credit union in April 2014. Since then James has led PenFed’s asset growth from $17.6 billion to over $25 billion and grown membership from 1.3 million to over 1.8 million.
James is committed to education. During his military career, James flew Black Hawk helicopters and trained other Army aviators as a night vision goggle instructor pilot. James taught Economics & Finance at the US Military Academy. He received the Legion of Merit for overseeing the creation of the $453 million Army University Access Online educational initiative.
As PenFed’s top executive, James often volunteers as a guest lecturer at universities, and hosts an annual internship program for rising college seniors. This year PenFed is expanding its commitment to deliver financial literacy in 20 high schools around PenFed branches in Puerto Rico. PenFed plans to post that economic education curriculum at PenFed.org.
