Introducing the New National Content Standards for K-12 Economics

Learn what’s new in the National Content Standards for K–12 Economics, why the updates matter, and how teachers and districts can use them to better prepare students for today’s economy.

Speakers:   

Bill Bosshardt has been director of the Center for Economic Education at Florida Atlantic University since 1995. An active researcher, Bill has published in leading journals such as the Review of Economics and Statistics and the Journal of Economic Education, earning the Henry H. Villard Research Award. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Purdue University. Bill led the team that revised the National Content Standards in K-12 Economics.  He also led the team that created the first edition of the National Standards in Personal Financial Education.

Elena Zee is President and CEO of the Arizona Council on Economic Education, where she leads statewide efforts to advance financial and economic literacy in K–12 schools. She also serves as Managing Director of the Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation, assisting trustees in reviewing and approving grant requests that promote economic literacy nationwide. Elena holds a master’s degree in economics from Columbia University, is an Aspen Institute Fellow, and has been recognized with the NAEE Leadership Award. She previously served as Vice President of Information Management at American Express. Elena facilitated the funding priority for the new National Content Standards in K-12 Economics.

Steve Bumbaugh is CEO of the Council for Economic Education, bringing extensive experience in educational leadership and philanthropy. He previously served as a senior executive at College Board, president of the ECMC Foundation, and led CityBridge Foundation’s Breakthrough Schools: D.C. competition. A former classroom teacher, Steve has dedicated his career to expanding access, equity, and excellence in education, helping students reach their full potential.
